ZestaPunta

ZestaPunta is an approach to the land of artisan tradition and contemporary design through a collection of luminaires.

It´s a project that was born from the collaboration of Basque designers and creators Silvia Ceñal and Pedro Galdon. Its aim is the recovery of ancestral techniques of craftsmanship and the exploration of links between different trades.

Cesta punta is a sport of Basque origin, a kind of Basque pelota with the difference that it´s played with a basket meticulously handmade with wicker from the Pyrenees. In the 70s and 80s it had a great following in the United States, but since then it has suffered ups and downs.

Nowadays, cesta punta is struggling to survive in the Spanish part of the Basque Country, but fortunately remains strong in the French Basque Country. Inspiring by the fighting spirit of this sport, Silvia and Pedro have come together to take a trip to tradition with natural materials and processes, contextualizing the design with the surroundings, evaluating the manual and artisan work of the human being.

As they say “Our source of inspiration is under our feet, between the Land and the Sea, always very close to us, with collaborators who excite us and shared concerns that crystallize our creativity”.

On this occasion, they have had the help of the artisan Gabriela Sagarminaga from the Sagarminaga Atelier to carry out this collection.

In this collection of 8 unique and limited edition luminaires, the textures and shapes of nature mix with vernacular architecture, bringing us closer to the origin, with a constant search for the balance between matter and function.
